You could easily pair them with some kind of scaled up avian opponent for an interesting encounter-- maybe stymphalidies? Even if the birds weren't big or aggressive enough to pose an additional challenge to adventurers, I can't imagine a myrmecoleon going anywhere and NOT being followed by a bunch of scavengers after it's corpse waistcoat.<br /><br />Actually, I can easily imagine any kind of society of cannibals sending myrmecolea out to roll around in people to trundle back with for the larder.
