There was even a "living floor" variation encounter I remember told about in Citadel Cavitius (Vecna's end-boss dungeon which had Death Knights in the random encounter tables of all things ugh) a horrific thing to spring on one's PCs IMO. So I wouldn't call it such an idea specific to one fantasy RPG world, like say, a Fungusaur or Urza's War Machine for instance LOL!
